The Bhakti Obala Project: Meditation in Koper
We've finally completed the new online space for Bhakti Obala and I realized that many of you who live in the Northeast may never have realized just how close we are…
Sometimes, to change things up, you don’t have to go far. All it takes is stepping away from your routine for a few hours, heading to a new place, taking a leisurely walk, breathing in the sea air, and spending a little time on the things we usually put at the bottom of our to-do list.
It is also from this desire that it arises Bhakti Obala, our monthly gathering featuring mantras, meditation, and music in downtown Koper.
The meetings begin at 17:00, but for those coming from Italy, they can easily become an opportunity to spend an entire day on the Slovenian coast.
Koper is, in fact, very close to the Italian border: from Trieste, it’s about 20 km, just over twenty minutes by car, while the city center is also easily accessible from other towns in Friuli-Venezia Giulia.
Arrive early and treat yourself to a different kind of day
If you'd like, you can arrive as early as this morning.
The historic center of Koper is compact and perfect for exploring on foot. You can stroll through the squares and streets of the center, make your way to the waterfront, stop by the sea, and finally take the time to slow down and not rush from one thing to the next.
You can then enjoy a leisurely lunch in town—there are several restaurants and even a new pizzeria right next to the room where we're meeting—and let the afternoon unfold at a relaxed pace.
To 17:00 We'll meet in the heart of Koper, at the Istria Counseling Center, Vergerijev trg / Piazza Vergerio 3, so we can get into a completely different rhythm together.
What Is Bhakti Obala?
Bhakti Obala This is not a course you have to take from start to finish, and you don't need any prior experience with meditation.
Each encounter is complete in and of itself.
We take the time to slow down, focus on our breath, and gradually leave the noise of the day behind. Through guided meditations, mantras, the voice, the violin, musical instruments, and moments of silence, we explore different forms of listening and presence.
Sometimes we just listen to the mantra. Other times we chant it together. You don’t need to know how to sing, and you don’t need to know in advance what we’ll be doing.
You can simply come and let us guide you.
The meetings are bilingual, in Italian and Slovenian. For us, this is an important part of the project: we live in a place where different languages and cultures come together, and we’d like Bhakti Obala to be a shared space.
And when the meditation is over, let's not leave right away
Then there is a part of Bhakti Obala which are particularly important to us.
When the practice ends, we don't immediately gather our things to go home.
Let's stay a little longer.
Let's share a little Vegan Yoga Refreshment, something to drink, a few words, and simply the pleasure of getting to know each other.
Because meditation can be a deeply personal experience, but we feel that the practice is also about relationships.
To meet someone.
Let's meet again next month.
Discovering that the person sitting next to us has a story completely different from our own and that, despite this, for a few hours we shared the same space, the same music, and the same mantras.
And if you want, you can turn it into a little weekend getaway
Koper is also a good base for exploring Slovenia.
If you don't feel like heading out again that same evening, you can stay the night and extend your stay on the coast.
Or you can go there the next day Ljubljana, which is about 100 km from Koper, about an hour's drive.
Ljubljana is worth a visit in its own right, and for those interested in the bhakti tradition, it is also home to the’Hare Krishna Center in Ljubljana, an active Vaiṣṇava community in the city.
That’s how a Bhakti Obala gathering can become something more: a day or a weekend spent stepping away from your routine, seeing new places, spending time by the sea, meditating, singing, and meeting other people.

Perhaps the best way to understand what it is Bhakti Obala It's not about over-explaining it.
It's simply a matter of coming. Sitting down. Breathing. Listening. And seeing what happens.
