I Kala Yoga are astrological combinations of extraordinary importance because they have the ability to override the overall meaning of the chart. When they are activated, we are no longer simply reading the individual planets in the signs or houses, but we enter a larger size, where Time itself - Kala - becomes the protagonist. Kala means time, but not a neutral, linear time: it is time that changes, that squeezes, that compresses, that forces one to experience blocking situations so that one can step outside the box, as Rahu demands, or seek a more subtle and radical freedom, as Ketu whispers.

Kala Yoga people bring a feeling of suspension and blockage that requires action, but not impulsive action: action that has matured over time. It is like living under a glass dome. We see the solutions, perceive the possibilities, sense the ways out, but do not yet understand how to reach them. The glass is invisible, yet real. It is the glass of time, telling us to wait, to observe, to mature. In this combination, the Lunar Nodes dominate the sky and become extremely relevant, almost silent rulers of the whole astrological scenario. Astrologically, Kala Yoga happens when all the planets are within the Rahu-Ketu axis: no planet is out of their grip. The whole sky is contained between the head and tail of the cosmic serpent.

There are two major types of Kala Yoga: the time snake, called the Kala Sarpa Yoga, and the nectar of time, the Kala Amrta Yoga. The former has a more stringent, karmic energy, sometimes harsher in its manifestation; the latter contains a promise, a potential for transformation that, if understood, can reveal itself as nectar, as Amrta, the immortal essence that is born of trial. These combinations, and how they are interpreted in natal charts and personal themes, are the subject of specific and in-depth study, because they do not merely describe events: they describe stages of destiny, seasons of the soul.

From Feb. 24 a particularly significant configuration was activated. After being exalted in sidereal Capricorn-symbolically calling to mind the avatara Narasimha, a powerful and protective form of the divine-Mars entered sidereal Aquarius. This shift ignited a cosmic combination of Kala Yoga. Mars joined Rahu, Sun, Venus and Mercury, creating a great energy traffic in sidereal Aquarius, an intense concentration of forces amplifying tensions, desires, conflicts and insights.

Mars with Rahu generates a combination known as Agni Stambhana Yoga, a fire block. It is as if martial, direct, combative energy gets sucked into obsessive mental patterns or distorted ambitions. Rahu attempts to suck the fire of Mars to feed his own insatiable desires. Mythologically, Mars is the general of the Deva, the celestial beings, while Rahu is associated with the Asuras, the obtuse and rebellious forces. In this tension, Rahu manipulates, Mars fights, but he often fights empty, tiring and dissipating energy. Hence the possible feeling of lethargy, chronic fatigue, frustration: much inner movement, but few immediate concrete results.

The conjunction between Rahu and the Sun recalls the dynamics of the eclipse, a powerful symbol of temporary darkening of consciousness. Eclipses are not just astronomical phenomena: they are archetypes of revelation and crisis. When light is obscured, we are forced to look inward. We had an eclipse of the Sun on February 17 and now we will have one of the Moon on March 3. This climate takes us toward a phase of strong collective sensitivity, accentuated by the fact that the March 3 Gaura Purnima, the anniversary of the birth of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, avatara who popularized the collective chanting of mantras, kirtan, and who was born precisely during an eclipse of the Moon. The symbol is clear: when the outer light is darkened, a greater inner light can be born.

Mars joined with Venus creates a tension between love and war. This combination, sometimes associated with Gandanta or Mangalika dynamics, ignites extreme emotions. Mars brings conflict, Venus relationship. When these two archetypes intertwine, relationships can become battlegrounds, places of simultaneous attraction and repulsion, spaces where love mixes with unresolved anger. It is an invitation to transform conflict into awareness, not to react impulsively but to understand what inner wounds are asking for healing.

Mars with Mercury, on the other hand, opens up a more creative space. This union fosters energetic communication, intense writing, the ability to use the word as a sword or as a therapeutic tool. It is what we informally call the combination of “writer's yoga”: the mind is ignited, the pen becomes a vehicle for processing. At a time when Mars wreaks havoc, writing can become a cathartic act, an inner discipline, a transformation of anger into conscious speech.

On all this intervenes Jupiter's benevolent aspect toward Aquarius, an attempt to mitigate the intensity of Rahu and Mars. Jupiter seeks to bring wisdom, vision, wider breath. But the combination that now overrides all results remains Kala Yoga. Time is in charge, not the individual planet.

The current configuration is that of the Kala Amrta Yoga. With Mars entering sidereal Aquarius, all planets are under the grip of the Lunar Nodes. The direction of movement goes toward Ketu, which becomes the symbolic head of Time in this phase, the subtle guide, the most relevant karmic point. If we look at the astrological chart, we see a very peculiar arrangement: Ketu from the Lion sidereal, a sign related to leadership, institutions, authority, religion, and central power, seems to indicate a push toward liberation from corrupt or stiffened forms of authority. Ketu desires to sweep away what is impure, to reset, to start from scratch. It is an ascetic, radical energy that does not fear emptiness because it knows that essence can emerge from emptiness.

Yet All the planets are still close to Rahu, still under the coils of the snake. It is a picture of a system that, while showing cracks, remains compact. Even when scandals or revelations emerge, power structures tend to remain firm. Rahu unites, restrains, manipulates, creates networks of control. Ketu, in contrast, separates, disrupts, liberates. The tension between these two forces is the very tension of our time: materiality versus spirituality, control versus freedom, manipulation versus truth.

The direction is purification, but the road takes time. This is why Kala Yoga is activated: the combination of mature time, of the process that cannot be forced. The mandate, at this stage, seems to be given to Ketu. And Ketu does not act with outward clamor: he acts within.

We will feel blocked, perhaps. But blockage is not punishment: it is an invitation to introspection. Ketu asks us to stop, to look within, to ask ourselves who we want to be and what world we wish to co-create. Change does not start from the outside; it comes from a personal inner change. Ketu takes away our footholds, takes away our certainties, but in doing so forces us to seek the nectar of time within ourselves. This is the deep meaning of Kala Amrta Yoga: at the heart of compulsion lies an immortal essence.

Kala Amrta Yoga is one of the most important astrological events of 2026 and will be with us for months to come. Kala yoga acts at intermittence, because the Moon, every fortnight or so, comes out of the grip of the Nodes and then re-enters it. It is like a snake squeezing its prey and then loosening its grip to digest. There is a pressure phase and a release phase. The lace tenses, then loosens, then tenses again. This cyclicality allows us to breathe, to integrate experiences, not to be squeezed continuously.

This configuration Will accompany us until August 1, 2026, when Venus, entering sidereal Virgo, will break the combination. Until then, Kala Yoga will color the end of autumn, all of spring and a significant part of summer, keeping this dynamic of introspection, tension and potential rebirth active.

From the point of view of the Samkhya Yoga, which considers the number of planets in the signs, the Moon-a symbol of the mind and collective unconscious-will become the needle of the emotional scale. Depending on its transits, it may activate a Śula Yoga, with a martial, combative, confrontation-ready energy, or a more gentle Kedara Yoga, linked to a mercurial energy that fosters connection with the earth, nature, rootedness. We oscillate between a desire for war and a thirst for justice, and a need for peace and reconnection with Mother Earth.

The sky describes the energies available, but does not dictate how to experience them. In this time governed by Kala Amrta Yoga, the choice of which vibration to cultivate remains ours. And it is right here, in the heart of the snake bite, that we can find out whether we want to react in anger or turn time into nectar.
